* Optional. Not an absolute necessity. (Some info in red ink above added by a retired nurse.)

Using these guidelines we believe that pregnant women & some teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 should be calculated the same as adult males. Youths between 7 and 13 calculated as adult females and children 6 or under at the small children rate. Seniors can manage at the adult female rate Column B. So:

Adult males, pregnant females, nursing mothers and active teenage boys age 14-18 need 1 bucket per month or 12 Buckets/year.

Adult females, most teenage girls, youths between 7 and 13 and inactive Seniors need .825 bucket per month each or 9 buckets/year.

Small children 6 or under need 1/3 bucket per month or 4 buckets/year.

Calculate the number of buckets you need to feed your family by figuring how many are Column A persons, how many are Column B and how many are Column C.

Church of Scientology San Diego Hosts Disaster Preparedness Workshop

Church of Scientology San Diego Hosts Disaster Preparedness Workshop

The Church of Scientology of San Diego sponsors workshop in response to President Obama’s call for community involvement before disaster strikes.

The Church of Scientology of San Diego hosted a disaster preparedness workshop September 12 in response to President Obama’s call for “individuals, families, and communities — including the private and nonprofit sectors — to do their part before an emergency.” The San Diego Office of Emergency Services, San Diego Humane Society Animal Rescue team and the Chamber of Commerce joined Scientology Volunteer Ministers at the future home of the Church of Scientology of San Diego on Parkway Drive in La Mesa, in a program to prepare local residents to protect themselves and their families, including pets, in times of disaster.

Lynette Hall, Director of the Churches of Scientology Disaster Response for San Diego County, pointed out that wildfires and earthquakes are simply facts of life in Southern California, and that county agencies cannot meet the immediate needs of every citizen after a major disaster: “Anyone could be without help from emergency or government agencies for 72 hours or even a week, so we all need to prepare ourselves and our families.”

Those attending learned the essentials of disaster preparedness including what food and water to set aside, how to store it, what are the necessary items for a first aid kit and how to cope with the threat of fire. They also learned how to plan for evacuation and reunite with family members who might not be home at the time disaster strikes. Each person attending received a copy of the Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Handbook, published by the Churches of Scientology Disaster Response San Diego chapter.

The seminar also included a presentation by the Department of Animal Control and Humane Society on how to care for pets and ensure their safety in times of emergency.

David Meyer, President of the Church of Scientology of San Diego, acknowledged the community-wide effort to bring vital information to local citizens. “When we all work together we can improve the quality of life for all, just as we did during the 2007 San Diego fire storms,” he said. “Our Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, gave the Volunteer Ministers the motto ‘Something can be done about it.’ We are very pleased to be part of this initiative.”

Food Storage Companies are Entering Network Marketing

Although almost every kind of products are available through network marketing (MLM or multi-level marketing), there are some newcomers to the industry these days aside from the many cosmetics, vitamins, nutritional drinks, travel, long distance phone service, and other types of companies which already exist. Emergency preparedness and food storage companies have joined the area of MLM.

Network marketing or MLM allows people to own their own business for a nominal start up fee as compared to regular brick and mortar businesses. It also provides a compensation plan which pays the person for bringing others into the business to share in the work and the profits. The people in several lines downward or sideways may bring cash earnings to the person who brought them into the business. They earn money from the efforts of others instead of only on their own work.

During these bad economic times when many people throughout the world are suffering and with the natural disasters which are striking whole communities, people are seeing the value of emergency preparedness and food storage. As grocery store shelves become quickly depleted when a natural calamity hits, it becomes apparent that families would do well to be prepared with some basic essentials.

Some organizations and churches have long admonished their members to prepare themselves for emergencies and disasters. Indeed, the motto of the Boy Scouts of America is: "Be Prepared."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which has received quite a lot of press in the past several years because of all the natural disasters such as Katrina which have hit the United States, recommends that people have enough food, water, and first aid for three days. If a natural disaster strikes, it usually takes at least three days before government and charitable aid is able to help sufficiently.

The bad economy has caused people to lose jobs and paychecks for long periods of time. Getting government or charitable help is not always easy or quick. Having a supply of food on hand (or food storage) can help alleviate the pain and suffering which can come. Companies which provide this service are now available in network marketing. Plans can be made through them to build up a food supply for emergencies by a small investment each month from the food budget. They are helping people to be prepared for whatever comes.

Disaster Preparedness Tactics

Disaster Preparedness Tactics

Disasters can happen anywhere and anytime around the world: fires, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes and tornado's are some of the most feared natural disasters. They have taken billions of lives till date and we still live with an impression that we cannot be affected by them.

If a disaster occurs in your community, local agencies and disaster-relief groups are there for help. However, emergency personnel may not be available immediately. They may take several hours, to several days to reach. It's your preparedness that can decide your chances of survival in such situations. Your emergency preparedness will be the key to you and your family's safety and survival.

Disaster preparedness is an essential element for you and your family's well-being. A little time spent today can ensure the well being of you and your loved once in the time of disasters.

Having essential survival plans and supplies like a family communication plan and emergency kits can provide the necessary resources to help you and your family get through a lot of difficult situations that may come up unforeseen, a bad storm, fires, earthquake being a few of them.

Survival supplies and preparation:-

1. Establish a communication plan: - Phones have become the key communication equipment today. Almost all our communication that happens when we are not face to face with a person happens on phones. Have you ever given a though as to how will you communicate with you loved once if phones are out of service. Now let's add a fact to this situation. During a natural or man made calamity or disaster phones are bound to go out of service.

Does your family know what to do if you can't contact one another by phone? Where would you gather in an emergency? We should all have a plan that is easy enough for even our youngest children to remember and follow.

As a matter of fact the U. S. government has in force a plan that in the event of another terrorist attack, EVERYONE's ability to use cell phones, blackberries, etc., will immediately be cut-off, as this is the preferred communication source used by terrorists and is often the way that their bombs are detonated. How will you communicate with your loved ones in the event you cannot speak to each other?

Solution is a clear cut and well defined plan that should be in place before hand.

2. Evacuation Plans: - In cases where evacuations become necessary, the local officials provide information through media and other methods like sirens and telephonic calls. There may be situations under which you and your family may feel threatened and evacuations may become necessary to avoid these situations.

Always keep a tank full of gas in your car if there seems like a possibility of evacuation. Gas may not be available or there may be a shortage of time to get it under such circumstances. Always keep your survival supplies handy and at a place where you and your family members can locate it easily. We will cover the items that should be a part of your survival supplies in our later posts.
